Analysis of Digital Citizenship

There are a lot of uses of technology in our everyday life, over 1/3 of people in the whole world have a smartphone. People use social media everyday, and they don’t just use it because they want to communicate other friends, some people use it for cyber bulling. People might thinks that they couldn’t get into trouble because no one knows that who they are, so they could do whatever they could.

Even messaging is one of Social Media apps, nowadays, messaging app is one of the default app in any phone. Anything that is used to communicate to each other is one of the social media apps. There are many ads that looks good, but when you press the ad, some hackers can actually hack into your device, and get your credit card number and access your personal information🤐.

Digital Citizenship is just a person using  information technology in order to engage in society, politics, and government. Right now, in the year 2020, technology is everything, we cannot do anything without technology, like the GPS, gaming system, and Social Media, some people just can’t live without those things, they view technology as their life.

According to Apple, analysts estimate Apple sold between 14 million and 16 million Air-pods in 2017. In 2018 Air-pods were Apple’s most popular accessory product, with 35 million units sold. 15.9 million units were sold in the first half of 2019. Analysts estimate Air-pods make up 60% of the global wireless headphone market. You can listen to radio on an Air-pod, so that means that you are accessing digital citizenship, so digital citizenship is basically everywhere in our life.

Digital Citizenship in other school districts

In Shoreline school district, people use technology everywhere, even on the school’s district. According to news media, about four out of five (81 percent) college students find digital learning technology to be helpful in improving their grades, and more than two-thirds (69 percent) feel that digital learning technology helps them to focus.

According to Wenatchee Public School, Digital Passport is a learning platform for grades 3-5 that teach and test the basics of digital safety, etiquette, and citizenship. Their school district has created presentations using open source solutions regarding digital citizenship, electronic bullying & harassment. Their school district said that their service have created a private network for you and your students and a safer online learning environment. They’ve also said that their students are engaged in their homework and classwork that are online, so that their school is actually engaged in the work.

According to Gridley Unified School Schools subject to CIPA have two additional certification requirements: 1) their Internet safety policies must include monitoring the online activities of minors; and 2) as required by the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act. But to keep this, they have to keep online digital citizenship appropriate for their age.

The Gridley Unified School have also noted that each school site’s Internet Safety Plan determines those teachers providing instruction at each grade level. So that means that the teaching of digital citizenship is changing in every grade.

According to Michael Israel, teaching students how to become digital citizens is essential as technology assumes a greater place in their lives.

• Rule 1: Treat others with respect.
• Rule 2: Do not steal.
• Rule 3: Shop on secured sites. …
• Rule 4: Never give out personal information, including phone numbers, addresses, and “check-ins” on social media.
• Rule 5: Social media is not a place to air drama- keep that for a journal.
